i bought a ring about 10 months ago a 9ct gold centurion heamatite which needed the stone replaced which they did for me, i then bought a gold onyx after spending the best part of 500 between them i was very satisfied with them, however i went in there just over a week ago to buy a 280 gold signet ring which needed to be made 5 sizes bigger, i overheard the lady talking to the jeweller where he said well have to add a piece of gold so its 30 and then he said to charge them 10 instead to have a piece of gold, as j know a bit about gold i carry my own scales i weighed the gold before purchasing to which it weighed 11.36 grams the same as the jewellers scales when i came to collect the gold that had been sized i asked the other jeweller to weigh it for me which the first jeweller didnt look very happy about so we left and when i got it home i weighed it again on my scales 11.36 so not a decimal of a weight change which is wierd as he said they needed to add gold i also noticed the shank of the ring was thinner than before my instincts were that the ring had been stretched by a large amount 5 sizes, my brother who is an ex-jeweller who i went to visit a few days ago looked at my ring and told me that there is no way gold has been added and that how he has made the ring bigger is streched it possibly by heating the ring and pushing it down a similar tool to a ring sizer with a mallet or using another form of ring stretching either way there is no doubt about it the ring had been streched and no gold was added, i trusted this jeweller after buying several rings and spending alot of money, but not any more.
Absolutely love me new platinum wedding band, I was concerned that it wouldnt like it after it was made so I was shown the ring first before it was finished to make sure I was happy as it could have been changed at that stage but it was spot on, I collected it a few days later, thank you.A very good price too for a hand made ring.
